Delta has released it’s Sky Miles and Sky Club updates
Sky Miles program
- Sky Miles members will now earn status via Medallion Qualifying Dollars (MQDs) only.
- This is effective 1/1/24
- MQM’s & MQS’s are going away
- Members will be able to convert MQM’s that have already been earned
- MQM’s to MQD’s at 20:1
- MQM’s to miles at 2:1
- More ways to earn Status
- With these changes to the SkyMiles Program, Members can now earn Status through purchases on eligible Delta SkyMiles American Express Cards, car rentals and stays booked on delta.com, and Delta Vacations, in addition to Delta and partner flights. Earn by spending how and when you want, with Delta and our partners.
- Stauts tiers
- SkyMiles Silver Medallion status: 6k MQDs (currently 3k MQDs)
- SkyMiles Gold Medallion status: 12k MQDs (currently 8k MQDs)
- SkyMiles Platinum Medallion status: 18k MQDs (currently 12k MQDs)
- SkyMiles Diamond Medallion status: 35k MQDs (currently 20k MQDs)
Sky Club Access
- Amex Platinum: 6 passes starting 1/1/25
- Amex Business Platinum: 6 passes starting 1/1/25
- Delta Reserve 10 passes (two annual guest passes) starting 1/1/25
- Delta Business Reserve 10 passes starting 1/1/25
- Delta Platinum: Passes no longer available for purchase starting 1/1/24
- Airfare
- Effective January 1, 2024, eligible Card Members with Basic Economy (E) fare tickets (or similar “Light” or “basic” tickets issued by a Delta partner) will not have access to the Delta Sky Club.
Passes are for the cardholder only.
Passes are based on Medallion year (February 1st – January 31st)

Thoughts
No word on the regular Platinum card… yet. OMMAT did tease out that there will be more details to come. As for the rest of it, clearly aimed at lounge crowds and incentivizing use if the Delta cards. Most of those cards are kept for the companion pass and checked bag, no real benefit of using them. This is aimed at changing that behavior… without making the cards themselves better.
