The basic American Airlines card is being discontinued. This is different than the AAdvantage cards currently issued by Citi. This basic version of an AA card can only be used on AA purchases.
Cardholders received a letter this morning
‘We are writing to inform you that as of October 15, 2023, American Airlines Credit Card cardholders will no longer be able to book travel or make purchases on aa.com with the American Airlines Credit Card. This changes comes as part of our plans to end this card program sometime in 2024.’
Thoughts
I didn’t know this was a thing…. seems silly to slow roll the closure by initially ending aa.com purchases. As this is the primary use case for the card.
