Letter
Thank you for being a Chase customer. On July 20, 2023, we’re replacing the Starbucks Rewards Visa credit card you have now with a Chase Freedom Unlimited Visa credit card because the Starbucks Rewards Visa credit card program is ending.
The Chase Freedom Unlimited Visa credit card earns Cash Back Rewards and has no annual fee.
Here’s how this change affects your Starbucks Rewards Visa credit card account
- Your account number, credit line, interest rates, travel and purchase protection benefits will stay the same. Any other terms not mentioned in this notice will continue to apply.
- Your new card will come with a new expiration date and security code. Be sure to update your card information with any merchants who bill you automatically or any bill service you may use.
- Your new Freedom Unlimited account has no annual fee. If your annual fee is coming due in April, May, or June, you will receive a statement credit for the pro-rated refund within one statement of when your annual fee bills.
- Your new card will arrive approximately six to eight weeks after July 20, 2023, provided that your account is open and not in default as of July 19, 2023. In the meantime, you can continue using the card you have now until your new Freedom Unlimited Visa card arrives.
- If your current card expires or you request a replacement card before July 20, 2023, you may receive that replacement before your new Freedom Unlimited Visa card arrives.
- If you have signed up for our DoorDash DashPass benefit by July 19, 2023, you will receive one-year of complimentary DashPass, a membership for both DoorDash and Caviar that provides unlimited deliveries with $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on eligible orders. If you have yet to sign up, you can still add your Starbucks Rewards Visa to the DoorDash or Caviar app and follow the steps to activate your complimentary DashPass membership.’ If you have not registered for the Starbucks DashPass benefit by July 19, 2023, you will be eligible for the Freedom DashPass benefit, which is three months of free DashPass followed by nine months of DashPass at 50% off.2
Here’s how this change affects your Rewards
Starting July 20, 2023, you will no longer earn Stars on your Starbucks Rewards Visa purchases, instead, you will begin earning Cash Back Rewards on your new Freedom Unlimited account. You will continue to earn Stars on purchases that post before July 20, 2023. This will not end your participation in the Starbucks Rewards Program.
As a valued Starbucks Rewards Visa cardholder, Stars earned on your Starbucks Rewards Visa through July 19, 2023 will be credited to your Starbucks Rewards account and will not expire until August 2024. For Starbucks Rewards Visa cardholders with an open account as of July 19, 2023, Stars earned on purchases made between July 20, 2023 and January 20, 2024 will not expire until August 2024. Beginning in January 2024, any Stars earned as a Starbucks Rewards member will expire six months after the calendar month in which they are deposited. Visit starbucks.com/rewards to see your current number of Stars available for redemption. Stars are subject to the Starbucks Rewards terms and conditions.

Thoughts
It still surprises me that this cobranded card didn’t work. Either Chase or Starbucks was cheap in this deal. As the card had an annual fee and only earned .5 points per dollar spent if memory serves. Chase is usually good with cobranded card programs.
